Artistic Licence was specified for the new MTV Canada headquarters. The building, "The Masonic Temple", has been returned to its former glory in a $9m refit. The building in downtown Toronto has been used as a music hall, a TV studio and most recently the rehearsal venue for the Rolling Stones. The building will become the Canadian headquarters and studio for MTV whilst also providing a venue for touring acts.
Colour-Tramp was specified to control the wide range of TIR fixtures that form the exterior feature lighting. Regular Artistic Licence Lighting Designer and Programmer Chris Chew was contracted to programme the show.
Shows were created not only with the internal visual effects of Colour-Tramp, but also using rendered video files and live video effects. One effect was generated by scanning a web-cam over some colourful food packaging to generate the effect of colour scattering across the building at different speeds.
Chris Chew comments: "Colour-Tramp is a very powerful tool. MTV were so pleased with what we achieved in the original programming schedule that they asked me to stay on for additional programming and effects generation".
