Charlotte Jones' The Dark premiered at the Donmar Warehouse in March 2004. To quote one reviewer: "There can be few more piquantly paradoxical ways of lighting up a stage than by dramatising the consequences of a power cut". (Paul Taylor)
Lighting designer David Hersey contacted Artistic Licence for the lighting solution. The requirement: To give the effect of either moonlight or sodium street light through the windows and to simulate the glow from a computer screen.
The choice of wide angle Colour-Pipe provided the desired visual effect. The small diameter of Colour-Pipe allowed mounting in the very limited space back stage.
David Hersey has since used Colour-Pipe and LVD to enhance Les Miserables and Pixi-Led at the core of the Miss Saigon lanterns.
